Easter is around the corner and what better way to celebrate the holiday then by making an Easter basket for your pooch. While most people make Easter baskets for their kids and grandkids, making an Easter basket for your dog is a lot of fun and cheap. I know Bonnie is very excited for her Easter basket since she keeps eyeing it on the table. Here’s how you can make an inexpensive Easter basket for your pooch!
Items to Put in Your Easter Basket
Your dog’s Easter basket should contain your dog’s favorite treats and favorite types of toys. One way to cut down on the cost of your dog’s Easter basket is to look for sales on your pup’s favorite items. Whenever I see a toy or accessory I know Bonnie will love on sale and there is a holiday coming up, I store it away to use as a gift.
A creative way to incorporate dog treats into your dog’s Easter basket is to put them inside the eggs. Your dog will have lots of fun sniffing out their treats.
Here is a list of ideas for items you can put in your dog’s basket:
- Squeaky toys
- Rope Toys
- Kongs
- Balls
- Biscuits
- Bully sticks
- Jerky Treats
- Bandanas
- Collars
Items to Avoid Placing in Your Dog’s Easter Basket
Despite plastic Easter grass being a great way to add some color to an Easter basket, I did not put any in Bonnie’s basket since I did not want her to eat it. Also, be sure not to put any chocolate candies in your dog’s basket since chocolate is very harmful to dogs. Instead, check out pet supply stores and stores on Etsy for Easter dog treats. Many stores sell an assortment of dog treats shaped like rabbits, eggs, and other Easter favorites. If you are feeling particularly creative, there are also many Easter dog treat recipes on Pinterest that you can make for your dog’s Easter basket.
While other Easter favorites like peeps and jelly beans, may not be as harmful as chocolate they can give your pup an upset stomach and diarrhea. Instead of giving your dog one of these candies, get them a Peeps shaped squeaky toy.
